Heinrich Boll Foundation Masters/PhD Scholarship for International Students in Germany
The Heinrich Böll Foundation provides scholarships to international students who have completed their university entrance qualification outside of Germany and are interested in pursuing a Masters or PhD Degree in Germany. This scholarship is available for all subjects offered at state or state-recognized universities in Germany.
Scholarship Details
The scholarship program is open to both EU and non-EU international students who are not educated in Germany. The number of scholarships awarded is not specified.
For Masters Studies, non-EU students will receive €934 per month plus various individual allowances, and possibly health insurance, while EU students will receive varying amounts up to a maximum of €812 per month plus €300 book money. Tuition fees are possible in certain cases for non-EU students in Germany, but not for EU students in Germany. However, EU students may be able to pay limited tuition fees in other EU member states.
For PhD Studies, non-EU students will receive €1,200 per month plus €100 mobility allowance per month, plus various individual allowances, and tuition fees are not possible. EU students will receive a basic scholarship of €1350 per month plus €100 per month for research costs, and tuition fees are not possible in Germany, but they may be able to pay limited tuition fees in other EU member states. The scholarship is awarded for three years as a rule (two years, may be extended at most by 12 months).
Eligibility Requirements
International students who have earned their university entrance qualification outside of Germany are eligible to apply for this scholarship. For Masters Studies, applicants may apply before commencing their Masters programme or at any time up to the end of the first semester of the Masters programme. Proof of first professional qualification must be provided. Required proof of German Proficiency: Level B2 or DSH 2 (with certificate).
For PhD Studies, applicants must provide proof of admission to doctoral studies by a state or state-recognized university, as a rule in Germany, along with the application. Preliminary work must have been completed by the application date, and a valid timetable for completion must be submitted. PhD subjects related to the focal points of the Foundation’s activities will be given priority. Required proof of German Proficiency: Level B2 or DSH 2 (with certificate).
